The RX 7900 GRE, A Great Card Or Rather Meagre?
It Should Sell For $549-$599US, But We Shall See
The RX 7900 GRE was originally only for the Chinese market but is now being made available across the globe. On paper the card looks quite similar to the RX 6950 but uses RDNA 3 instead of RDNA 2, the L3 cache is halved to 64 MB and the transistor count is way up. The frequencies on the RX 7900 GRE , 1880 MHz Game and 2245 MHz Boost, are lower than the RX 6950 as well bit that also means the power has been noticeably reduced, from 335W to 260W.
Sebastian’s testing showed the Sapphire model to be faster than the old RX 6950, often trading places with the RTX 4070 SUPER. The FPS Review also had a chance to test the card out and even managed to overclock it to boost clocks by 6%. Their testing involved a number of games which we did not, so it is definitely worth a peek if you are playing Avatar or Assassin’s Creed. The RX 7900 GRE should handle any game you toss at it running at 1440p with all the bells and whistles cranked, and you should be able to enjoy 4K if you upscale with FSR.
AMD will be making the Radeon RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition) GPU officially available worldwide, which means you will finally be able to purchase it in the US from all the well-known add-in-board partner manufacturers.
