VR-Zone has published a report with a detailed slide showing upcoming AMD Godavari processors, and the updated lineup includes 12 new models.
The release schedule indicates a spring availability for most of the new APUs, with the Athlon X4 850 and 870K shipping in May. The APU line gets a new flagship desktop part with the A10-8850K, and this appears to be a higher-clocked version of the A10-7850K, with a 100MHz higher boost clock (4.1 GHz vs. 4.0 GHz) and a higher GPU clock of 856 MHz (vs. 720 MHz).
Of particular interest for the potential budget quad-core buyer is the Athlon X4 870K, a new 95W part which would presumably replace the X4 860K – a processor that has seen inconsistent availability (and is currently unavailable on Newegg). With more games being released that require a quad-core to run, these sub-$100 Athlon CPUs present a great value in constructing a low-cost gaming system these days.
The slide does not indicate a change in the 28nm process from Kaveri, and it should be safe to assume these will not represent a significant architectural change. The modest clock increases from Kaveri will result in some performance gains, and this is good for consumers assuming these will sell at the same price points as the outgoing models.
I don’t understand all of a
I don’t understand all of a sudden AMD is names of rivers from India. I am interested in seeing if after a long gap AMD can challenge Intel for desktop cpus both in terms of performance and price.
I was about to ask that same
I was about to ask that same question… need to research who is in charge of these naming…
I see the reduced clock speed
I see the reduced clock speed of Athlon X4 870k.
To me, that’s very interesting, as we all know AMD is all about high clock speed.
Does it mean we will get better IPC?
I’m looking forward to it.
why would anyone want these
why would anyone want these over the kaveri chips they already got, it the same exact silicon, with a small bump in clock speed, that anyone should be able to achieve on the already existing kaveri chips, they are releasing these just to mask their lack of product in desktop, they are getting further and further behind intel and now with the rumors of zen being delayed it seems pretty much impossible for them to catch up in terms of performance in any area of desktop except integrated graphics
These aren’t aimed at people
These aren’t aimed at people who already have Kaveri.
They’re just slightly better performing parts whose introduction will probably come with a price drop for the range.
They have sufficient CPUS
They have sufficient CPUS performance for it to not be a bottleneck. CPU reviews haven’t been of much interest for a long time. Most games are gpu limited so there isn’t much difference. Most of the other applications used to test CPUs are either professional type applications (not used by most consumers) or applications which are moving towards being GPU accelerated (video encoding and such). Also, DX12 should reduce the amount of CPU power needed even more; almost any modern cpu with 4 or more cores will probably be sufficient for most uses.
These APUs will really get interesting if the stacked memory processes are actually cheap enough to make use of it. Having the bandwidth available via HBM/stacked memory removes the limitation keeping “integrated” graphics from moving farther up in the market. If the process is cheap enough, I would expect APUs to take even more of the dedicated graphics market. Intel is working on stacked memory also; their GPUs are weaker, but they have a lot of money to spend to make them better.
not true, now days more and
not true, now days more and more games are cpu limited, if your ok with fps dropping bellow 30 whole the time then yea, not to mention if you play mmo’s or rts;s where single core performance is kind, and then even in newer games like dying light as the most recent example you are extremely cpu limited
seems to me that yes, some
seems to me that yes, some games are cpu limited, but more and more are CORE limited, and for now intel doesnt have a low cost 4 core desktop cpu whereas AMD does.
What does having a quad core
What does having a quad core help, if a dual core beats it?
Well yes, as we now stand,
Well yes, as we now stand, from a benchmarking point of view the intel 2 core budget parts (the new pentuims) KICKS THE ASS of any budget 4 core AMD part (fm2/+) BUT these days that’s not so important, atleast in the ‘budget gaming rig’ world. More and more games need more CPU threads to work, some say it’s inefficient codeing, some say it’s good utilization coding, argument for another day, but the point is that simply having 4 good enough cores is more important than having 2 very powerful cores, IN GENERAL, FOR THE MOST PART, AT THIS POINT IN TIME, FOR A CHEAP GAMING RIG. And of cource after that it’s all about that GPU.
Sweclockers were
Sweclockers were correct.
They have also reported on a whole lot other AMD news…
Their source at AMD seems legit.
Can somebody explain me why
Can somebody explain me why is AMD still peddling old kaveri rebrands when the have brand new Carrizo? It makes absolutely no sense. Why don’t they release carrizo for desktop?
No money in the pocket. If
No money in the pocket. If they had money, we will be seeing Excavator cores even on AM3+ and we would be laughing at Intel users for having to change their mobos for almost every new Intel processor. Now we can’t laugh at Intel users because they are so far ahead that we have to call them on phone first.
LMAO. AMD fanboys are still
LMAO. AMD fanboys are still spewing the same crap. AMD didn’t have a new chipset and THAT is why their sockets lasted so long. Not because a new chipset would confuse or complicate things. They did it because they didn’t have a new chipset to charge money for. Period. Also, their newer CPU’s weren’t much better than previous CPU’s to even warrant a new chipset.
AMD sells low because they HAVE to to keep their products from collecting dust on the shelves. That’s it! It’s not to make it easier for you, or so they can say they don’t need a new motherboard like Intel, because that would be like AMD saying they aren’t in business to make MONEY. Don’t get it twisted!
Again… AMD would LOVE to charge the same money Intel does, but they can’t because they have the inferior product.
kaveri refresh… nothing to
kaveri refresh… nothing to see here
Intel vs AMD.
Intel vs AMD. FIGHT!

[SPOILER] AMD CPU’s lose by crippling high end GPU’s. Meanwhile, Intel i3’s are competitive to the FX 8350. Enjoy your cheaper, but not better CPU’s!
AMD APU’s and CPU’s should be paired with low to midrange GPU’s only.
I still dont understand why
I still dont understand why some of you people feel the need to lash out and trash people for buying another brand than what is in your PC. Why even waste the energy on concerning your self with that?
Dont see the gain there. Brand loyalists are the worst.
BURN THE NON BELIEVERS, RED
BURN THE NON BELIEVERS, RED CLAN SHALL RISE UP TO SLAUGHTER OUR GREEN EMPIRE OPPRESSORS!!!!! TO WAR MY BROTHERS!!!!!!!!!!
😉
Nothing to see here boys –
Nothing to see here boys – please move along….
Oh Collie , i wish – so i wish i could root for the red clan again, but there is nothing on the horizon.
we are moving to DDR4! , 2015 is a change year, by 2017 ddr3 will be real expensive- remember the switch from DDR2 to DDr3?
AMD does not have any silicon that can take advantage of it, no new chipsets with new PCIE, in fact nothing new, just some slight refreshes.
we used to have a fairly quick cpu cycle – it was not like this insane Intel cycle but it still kept everything refreshed. Chipsets also refreshed when there were new features put out.
now nothing
OMG , Most of those CPU are
OMG , Most of those CPU are playing games over 60fps. What is the % of gamers that use a screen with the frame rate higher than 60fps? Not alot.
This debate is getting more and more stupid and fanboys and trolls wont stop even, if over and over lots of people shows that in real time situation you do not see alot between both brand.
I feel we are back to the era of our grandparents when they swear only by one brand of car. They could pay too much or they could get only crap cars but they only swear by this brand.
