I would buy this if they also made a USB dock for their NVMe sleds. I’d use the PCIe adapter in my home desktop and the USB dock with my work computer. Until then I’m ok just using my USB to NVMe enclosures

I love the form factor of mini-PC. Having used 2 NUC’s which I highly recommend for cool and quiet PC operation and even light gaming. The ECS LIVA looks like another nice addition with solid innards and excellent productivity performance. I would also recommend getting 32GB RAM minimum to future-proof the performance & longevity of your mini-PC.

In reply to Brett Hood. That particular GPU does not feature anything more than a 128 bit memory bus. Something like the RX 6700XT is a cut down version of the 6800 series, so instead of a 256 bit bus it uses only the 192 bits.

Well its out of the box now, so it now depends on what the bad guys do with it. Intel had to address the potential even though it was also consider a low risk impact. My complaint is that Apple chose to handle this in a way that ignored the past with Spectre and Meltdown. It basically has repeated the same mistakes for the sake of performance. The risk might be low but it could be combined with other types of attacks as well. Bad guys are clever taking one weakness and combining with another. Then you have the weakness of the end user. One who has been convinced by Apple that no harm can come to them. You also have a bigger footprint in the world and a common design thread with iPhone’s and iPad’s. So nobody has tested this on those devices. Clearly has a problem and a need to address it in order to have it not affect the trust of the end user.

FYI, this is inaccurate. VM’s transfer over perfectly to KVM on TrueNAS SCALE. Its only Jails and Plugins that need to be re-created, but all the data persists just fine.

Yeah, looks like they won’t which isn’t surprising, I can’t imagine how they could make that happen anyway given how different it works under the hood.

I’m sure there is a way to backup the Plex data I need, just need to look into it. On the plus side I’ll have access to the Intel iGPU on for QuickSync transcode streams.

In reply to Operandi. Your jails will likely not migrate, but there should be a means to set up LXCs in their places. Just backup your existing Plex metadata? You can access the file system of your jails and offload anything elsewhere through the terminal for those jails.

Figured this would happen eventually and I always wondered how wise of decision it was to go with TrueNAS for my home NAS knowing they’d eventually move away from FreeBSD. I read over the Register article but it wasn’t really clear if the Jails will make it over with the migration? I’d hate to loose all my customized Plex metadata…..

All of the other cards you tested would ALSO GO FASTER, and would even go faster than the Lexar if you used those cards’ own proprietary card reader
