Lenovo launched the TAB S8 at IFA in Berlin today, making it the company's first Intel-powered 8-inch tablet running Google's Android operating system. The TAB S8 packs a decent amount of hardware into a 7.9mm thick and 299 gram package that will be available later this month starting at $199.
The TAB S8 features an 8-inch "Infinity Glass" 1920 x 1200 IPS display, two front facing Dolby Audio speakers, a 1.6 megapixel webcam, and an 8MP rear camera. Lenovo will offer the TAB S8 in white, black, yellow, and blue.
Internally, the TAB S8 uses an Intel Atom Z3775 "Bay Trail" SoC clocked at up to 1.83 GHz, 16GB of eMMC storage, and 2GB DDR3 memory. The tablet runs Android 4.4 and will support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and (optionally) LTE cellular radios.
Exact SKUs and specifications have not yet been announced, but the base 16GB model will be available in September for $199. For the price, the TAB S8 looks to be a good deal, with hardware that is very competitive to other budget Android tablets!

Even the Intel ARK listing
Even the Intel ARK listing for this SOC does not list the HD graphics version number, it just says Intel HD graphics, tried looking in the data sheets, too many pages, do you know the version number? HD graphics(TM) in not enough info, Intel!
Yes, I find that annoying
Yes, I find that annoying about the ARK site as well. It appears that this Bay Trail SoC uses a version of HD Graphics that is based on HD 4000 (Ivy Bridge) but with only four execution units and running at lower clockspeeds (up to 311-778MHz).
I hope it helps.
Thank you, your info helps,
Thank you, your info helps, the Custom 64 bit ARMv8 ISA based cores from Apple, and Nvidia, are going to give Atom a hard time, more so because of their graphics ability, the Nvidia graphics especially, but even the PowerVR graphics on the Apple SKUs also. AMD should get their custom ARMv8 ISA based APU, hopefully soon, and that new MIPS warrior CPU looks good, from the same imagination PowerVR maker.
The Wikipedia, tabular listings are terrible, as far as CPU pinouts are concerned, no complete listings in their “tables” on core count, address bus width, or other on core info such as # of execution ports per CPU core, or pipeline depths, or number of per core IPCs. Wikipedia could be a big help in this area, if they took the time to list in tabular form, all of the important for comparison specifications and complete pinouts for CPUs/SOCs. The information is too scattered on Wikipedia, so its off to the thousands of pages in the data sheets.
Intel’s ARK listings were once a good quick reference source of complete info, but their information quality is dropping.
Are you or any readers familiar with any academic resources that may list, in tabular format, a more complete listing of Microprocessor specifications, that include more CPU core information like total execution pipelines(Per Core), IPCs(Per Core), internal On die bus/fabrics widths, SMT or CMT, RISC or CISC, etc. as well as address bus width(often not included in most quick reference tables). A comprehensive Tabular listing would be invaluable, and some academic, or government sponsored academic listing, must exist out there that is public domain, if it has been funded by the taxpayer/government grants.
It’s going to be harder, without Anand, getting information on new and upcoming CPU/SOC microarchitectures, and Google’s search algorithms are so gamed by the Ad industry(Google included), as to be ineffectual for research purposes. Wikipedia, take some of that big director’s and administrator’s pay, and fund a full time Computer science/microarchitecture editor(that Knows their CPU pinouts)! A comprehensive CPU/SOC information tabular listing should be you strong point, but apparently the words definitive reference, and Wikipedia should never be mentioned in the same sentence.
What about power
What about power consumption/battery life? It’s an Intel Atom unit competing against highly energy efficient quad-core ARM tablets.
Well, allegedly “up to seven
Well, allegedly "up to seven hours" but assume less if watching HD video and such.
So close. I was very
So close. I was very interested in this tablet until I found out that it doesn’t have a MicroSD slot. No SD slot = FAIL.
