Laptops are thin and light
Laptops are thin and light enough, let’s start focusing more on making regular form factor laptops that offer more of AMD’s APUs(with DUAL Channel memory) and better screen resolution. The hell with 15 watts, at least have a few work horse laptop offerings with AMD SKUs that can run at 35 watts with DDR4 dual channel RAM because the Graphics for the price is always much better for AMD’s APU SKUs than Intel’s offerings at the same price points. Intel never offers its best graphics options at competitive prices compared to AMD’s graphics, and Laptop OEMs will have no excuse to continue to offer any single channel solutions for Laptops, what a waste. When I see the word Thinnest, the only other word that comes to mind is Gimped!
So you want super thin
So you want super thin laptops capable of dissipating the heat produced from higher wattage parts?
You can’t have both thin and performance at the same time. Thin laptops are aimed at non-gaming tasks where battery life and noise are important.
Things obviously continue to improve however, and when we get Zen APU’s on a 14nm node we will see some lower wattage APU’s with medium gaming potential for thin laptops.
With the delay on release of
With the delay on release of the Rift motion controllers, I am wondering if the camera based tracking has issues. Perhaps it works acceptably while seated but has issues if you stand up farther from the camera or something. Even standing up has issues, I would think. The headset has tracking LEDs on the back, but a controller would still be easily occluded if you turned around or even to the side. You would probably need another wired camera at a minimum, but then you are processing another high fps video stream. It would also require some long USB cables to even approach room scale.
I didn’t even think of the possible resolution issues with room scale. I don’t know how high the resolution on the camera is, but I have heard several issues of it not working with too many other USB devices present. The guy from the “Tested” YouTube channel said something about needing to plug it in directly rather than through a hub with some external hard drives plugged into the system also. Totalbiscuit (John Bain) also mentioned USB issues. I believe he said something on one of his YouTube videos about adding in an extra USB card to solve issues. It must be running pretty high resolution or with minimal compression or something.
Did you guys find the noise
Did you guys find the noise from the light house devices to be annoying? Some one said they didn’t like the noise from them and that they are on all of the time that they are plugged in. I guess he connected them to something where he could cute the power easily. He may have had them in a very quiet room though.
