Until the afternoon of Sunday, August 2nd, the European Speedrunner Assembly will be hosting ESA Summer Online 2020. According to their donation tracker, this is their twentieth event, and its schedule is full of great games. While it is not the size of Games Done Quick, their bigger events usually bring in high five-digits of money for charity.
This event benefits the Swedish Alzheimer’s Foundation (Alzheimer fonden).
They are currently wrapping up a very good Super Mario block, which started with Super Mario Maker 2 and will end with Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels in about an hour. There is a fairly good block tomorrow, Saturday, July 25th, starting with Metroid games in the late morning, Dark Souls-like games, Nier Automata, and ending with Earthbound at night. (This is followed by a run of Alone in the Dark 1992 if you like DOS-era survival horror games.)
The rest of the event will have other highlights, like Pepsiman, Goat Simulator, several Pokémon games, Illusion of Gaia, and a Randomizer / Crowd Control race of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Unfortunately, A Link to the Past is the only race because there is a global pandemic and all. Kaspersky is hosting a Doom Eternal speedrun competition, though, which takes place on Sunday.
If you like long games, then Skies of Arcadia: Legends has an 11-hour block on Tuesday, which starts in the middle of the night and ends in the early afternoon. A few three-to-five-hour runs are scattered throughout the week, too.
