For a mere $144 you can pick up an impressive AM3+ board, the ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer and for $185 you can install an FX-8370E on the board. This leaves you budget leftover to pick up an impressive GPU, SSD and some value priced DDR3 allowing you to create a system that is significantly less than an Intel based on and still lets you game in style. This particular board offers three PCIe 2.0 x16 Slots and a pair of PCIe x1 slots, five SATA 6Gbps ports and an NGFF M.2 port, 7 channel Realtek ALC1150, a TI NE5532 headset amp and quite a few USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. As Modders-Inc points out it is not the newest product on the market but it has a brilliant feature set and as it is often on special a little patience could net you an even better deal. Check out the review and remind yourself that while AMD is down, it is not quite out yet.
"It is an odd way to start the new year with a review of what many enthusiasts consider old technology (990FX mainboard) but the ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer is an interesting and unique in that it incorporates many modern comforts not found on other 990FX mainboards. Plus, with the release of lower power 95W FX processors a few months ago, …"

Well, at this moment, every
Well, at this moment, every penny is wasted in this rig. No upgrade solution for later around, performance is still questionable compare it to power consumption. I would go for intel, even i have lot of AMD cpu.
amd, i keep supporting your
amd, i keep supporting your products, but am in a quandry. YOU HAVE NO FREAKING MODERN ENTHUSIAST MOTHERBOARDS. i would sadly be happy with a refresh of am3, just add pci 3 support, speed up your memory support and some bits and pieces, but instead i get a SOCKET THAT HAS BEEN OUT SINCE 2011. grr… the rage has now subsided, and intel prepare to take my money since there is no competition in your market.
Yall are missing another
Yall are missing another point of this board take a close look. Asrock is the first and only company doing m.2 slots on am3+ boards. this and the 990fx extreme6 have m.2 and put it this way I will be getting this mobo unless there is a better m.2 amd board out this next holiday season.
though if you want to OC go
though if you want to OC go the extreme6. it is somewhat of a toss up for me which is better
well i find i am building
well i find i am building another amd rig- but doing the budget build for a freenas unit. cheapest multicore to support it, load it up with ram and drives.
but i have to agree with the other posts- it has been waay to long since AMD has really refreshed the architecture of the chips and the chipsets for the motherboards. -so when i DO build a new machine for myself – intel is the only way to go
Hey, on one hand you can
Hey, on one hand you can b*tch about socket refresh. But i’ve been upgrading just chips in AMD for a lonnnnngggg time.
I guess its a double edge, but it sure makes yearly upgrades cheap. Which is kinda why people have loved AMD, easy on the wallet.
