Patriot Supersonic Rage Prime Time USB 3.2 Gen 2 Storage!
Patriot Rage Prime – what’s in a name?
Don’t let your USB storage be docile and just sit there! Let it Rage! At least that’s the naming convention Patriot is using for their latest USB storage devices. These range in capacity from 250GB up to a very decent 1TB. The age of USB portable storage is still with us sometimes, as the benefits in being able to sneaker-net huge quantities of data between non-networked machines or being able to skip past slow networks is still valuable.
"With the success of the recently launched SUPERSONIC RAGE PRO, we decided to push the limits and offer a new drive that is not only faster but comes in a higher capacity. The cross-platform support is perfect for complex data transfers and even allows you to run apps from the drive itself," said Roger Shinmoto, Vice President of Product Development. "The SUPERSONIC RAGE PRIME has been customized to offer users breakneck read performance making it perfect for visual presentations and entertainment."
They utilize the USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection – that’s 10Gb/s – if you have one, so these can be seriously fast portable flash storage. This is of course backwards compatible with the older USB 3.0 standard. Patriot is claiming read speeds of up to 600MB/s, which would put these USB sticks in the range of a good SATA SSD for transfer speeds. Patriot advises us that they are using an improved controller and high quality NAND to achieve these speeds.
A typical SSD drive however is not quite as small, easily plugged in, or wrapped up in a ruggedized housing. Also there’s no cap to lose with the retractable design for the connection on the Supersonic Rage Prime. The name just rolls off the tongue like retribution. This storage is advertised to be compatible with just about everything Windows, Mac and Linux and Patriot is backing it with a 5 year warranty. One thing I can say in general is to buy name brand flash drives folks, otherwise you could get short-changed with storage that advertises capacity that does not exist.

This kind of higher quality portable fast USB storage is not inexpensive however, the 1TB version is $165, the 500GB is $85 and the 250GB is $50.
For that price you can put an M.2 drive in a 10GBs USB enclosure, but still it’s smaller, I guess.
“They utilize the USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection – that’s 10GB/s ”
I wish. Unfortunately USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 and USB 3.2 Gen 1×2 support speeds up to 10Gb/s.
USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 supports speeds up to 20Gb/s, but that standard was hardly ever adopted by any one. Manufacturers just collectively decided to ignore it in favor of USB4. (Which also has a WAYYYY better name. lol)
It’s also kind of a shame the drive only has a USB Type A connector. Kind of a buzzkill.
Also, the drive sort of looks (physically) like it came out of 2008.
the tech and the looks are so incongruous .
