A few months ago, Microsoft released 32- and 64-bit drivers for their Xbox One controller on Windows 7 and Windows 8. This was for wireless controllers attached by micro-USB to a PC. Now, Microsoft announced a new controller for Windows: the same controller, only bundled with the required cable. In fact, it can still connect wirelessly… to an Xbox One, not a PC.
The bundle will cost $59.95 (MSRP) and be available starting in November. As far as I can tell, the PC cannot update the Xbox One Controller's firmware; for that, you apparently need an Xbox One handy. It is possible that Microsoft will implement this, or already has and no-one is talking about it, but you might want to hold off until we know for a fact. One update adjusts analog stick sensitivity; this could be important, especially if you have multiple controllers at different patch levels. Yes, some PC games allow local multiplayer.
I can only hope the
I can only hope the connection plug-in won’t be as fragile as it is right now…
Why bother with this
Why bother with this controller at all? You still can’t use it wirelessly on a windows pc, and that usb connection is very fragile.
The wired xbox 360 controller is still $20 cheaper brand new and you can find them dirt cheap at pawn shops all over.
Looks like Microsoft still
Looks like Microsoft still doesn’t understand PC gaming whatsoever.
How do you figure? This
How do you figure? This isn’t a MK replacement, but rather it’s for games like MK. see wot i did thur?
I hope the thumbsticks have
I hope the thumbsticks have been fixed. If you google around, thumbsticks are breaking left and right. They just start driving up and to the right, to the point you can’t play with them anymore. Mine did that within about 200 hours of play time. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s XB1 $60+ controllers only have a 90 day warranty (even if they came in-box with the console, which has a one year warranty).
Having already bought a second controller for the console within months (and I take almost paranoid care of my controllers) and seeing absolutely no acknowledgement from Microsoft about it being a problem, it makes me worried about buying yet another one.
Of course, meanwhile, my main 360 controller is on its seventh or eighth year and my 360 controller on the PC is on its fourth or fifth. No problems whatsoever with either.
Also, would it hurt to make a PC version of the controller that has a few nice little PC-extras? I mean, I understand it needs to be identical to the original controller since that’s what most game developers are targeting on the PC (ugh), but that shouldn’t mean they can’t add a few things (hell, maybe at least make the power button do something useful?)
I’ve been using my XBox One
I’ve been using my XBox One with the play and charged kit on my PC for months now, which is the samething as this product. Only difference is price.
