I'm not sure how useful this is, but Valve has added the ability to remove a game from your Steam account through their customer support website. When you log into Steam with your web browser, or select “Steam Support” from the Steam Client's Help menu, you can select a game and see its available options. One is “I want to permanently remove this game from my account.”
I don't exactly know all of the specifics for will happen when you do this, but it sounds like you will need to repurchase the title if you change your mind. This is probably most useful for free little experiences, like Portal Story: Mel or Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist, which you've completed and don't want cluttering your Steam library.
On the other hand, users at NeoGAF, who (of course) broke this story, are concerned that it will be abused by trolls who phish accounts. Not only can they sell off their items, they can delete all of their games just because. I would hope that Valve has methods to track deleted games, even just for a limited time, in extreme cases.
On the other hand, a service like GoG could benefit from this feature. Since everything is DRM free, it could provide a transaction and let the user delete the record after they purchase it, rather than flaunt it on a public profile as Steam sort-of does. In that case, deleting the record wouldn't destroy the content — just place the burden on the user to back-up.
I removed two games that were
I removed two games that were absolutely broken on Modern Systems that I know will never be patched that I only payed $1.49 each for since I got tired of looking at them. Also removed ARMA’s DayZ mod because….Well, I dont really need a reason for that one
im not sure what problem this
im not sure what problem this solves?
cluttering up one’s steam library?? i have 150+ titles, only which a 20% or so are installed at any one given time. having an extra line of text in your steam games list is that annoying???? really???
im with the NeoGaf folks…this only seems a like a recipe for more problems. please…someone much more intelligent than myself, tell me why Gaben and Co. would even contemplate this feature. the only thing i can think of, is if there is a situation where a child downloads a title, w/o the consent of their guardians, and they (guardians) would want to permanently remove said title, rather than just delete it locally.
If you dont GET IT, then you
If you dont GET IT, then you are just not capable of understanding that point of view. Nothing personal.
For some people that one extra unnecessary line of text is a big deal.
I agree, although I think it
I agree, although I think it does make sense for free games and mods since you can re-add them if you ever want to. I’d like to delete any trace of having tried mobas
You have 150(ish) titles on
You have 150(ish) titles on Steam, and only 30 of them (20%) installed – leaving 120(ish) titles uninstalled and sitting in your steam list.
Do you honestly plan to play all of them?
Personally, having 120 titles in my Steam library that I doubt I’ll ever play again would, in fact, be an annoyance to me. I got it for free, but I’m never, ever going to play Skyborn. I don’t need that in my list. And I don’t need 120 Skyborns in my list either.
We get it, you like waste. But not everybody wants their Steam library to be a potential episode of Hoarders.
One day, a long time from now, you’ll be at your desk, deleting game after game after game from your Steam library because you’ll never ever play them, completely unironically using the very feature that you’re sitting here bashing today. You’ll probably not even remember that you were bashing it, and instead be silently thankful that you’re clearing out a bunch of wasted space in your Steam library.
If you want to delete it from
If you want to delete it from your kid’s library, maybe, because you didn’t know about certain content beforehand? Or maybe it’s one of those annoying F2P games where you download it once and try it and then it’s forever in your library?
Finally! I’ve hidden few
Finally! I’ve hidden few games from my sight. Now I can get rid of them permanently from my library. Unfortunately it wasn’t always possible to request a refund. First piece of functionality I like in Steam, which I hate as a platform. Period.
It is useful if you purchase
It is useful if you purchase a game in another region or grey market like g2a – some games are language locked, hard to remove the game and repurchase again without going through Valves terrible tech support.
This is perfect for those
This is perfect for those Humble Bundles where you only wanted that one game and all these other ones cluttered up your library.
Just create folders …
Just create folders … like:
1. Will play
2. Might play
3. Didn’t finish
4. Finished
5. Not interested
6. Broken
7. Multiplayer
These are the categories I have in my library. I don’t see why I would want to remove something i paid for, or didn’t even. If i could get the cd key and sell it, then yeah, I’m in. Let me sell Dark Souls 2, Sleeping Dogs and Metro 2033. I have the better editions of those games in my library. These old ones are currently in “not interested” doing nothing.
