AMD’s latest graphics cards are already hitting the street, but Nvidia’s high end GPUs are nowhere to be seen. Late last year, we heard rumors that Nvidia’s GK104 "Kepler" graphics cards may be delayed to an early summer or late spring launch. If the latest rumors reported by Maximum PC hold true; however, Nvidia’s Kepler cards’ release may be leaning more towards a late spring launch instead of an early summer window.
They report that sources from Chinese website ChipHell.com have indicated that Nvidia’s new high end GTX 680 graphics cards may be released as soon as February 2012. This is a relatively big push forwards compared to the previously rumored March or April launch window, and is likely being accelerated in response to AMD’s successful launch of their GCN (Graphics Core Next) based Radeon 7970 graphics cards. Although we do not know much about the upcoming cards, the general consensus is that the GTX 680 cards will have 2 GB of video memory on a 256-bit bus. Further, the Kepler cards’ core will run at 780 MHz, and the GK104 cards will have TDP (thermal design power) ratings of 225 Watts.
Whether the company will have actual hardware to sell or if it will be more of a "paper launch" remains to be seen. If I had to venture a guess, the cards will likely see limited availability in a late February launch but will not be around in significant quantities until later this year. With the delays caused by manufacturing the 28nm Kepler cards over at TSMC, the company is not likely to have all that big of a stockpile on hand.
I hope they don’t rush
I hope they don’t rush because then they wouldn’t beat AMD’s 3GB beast.
Not with those specs! For a
Not with those specs! For a high end 28nm gpu the clocks seem very low! This seams to be a gtx 560 replacement. ( but even the current 560 clcoked higher)
you do realize clock speeds
you do realize clock speeds are a fairly meaningless piece of information?
Gorilla’s right. Clock speeds
Gorilla’s right. Clock speeds aren’t the important thing, GPU architecture is.
dudum the asus mars crushes

GK112 or go home to be honest
GK112 or go home to be honest ever since the roadmap was leaked and I saw 104 and 104 x2 I was like oh no I’m not fallin for that. so if 680 is 104 then I’m passing for a 780 next year
I’d agree, i hope they take
I’d agree, i hope they take their time and release a card that can compete in performance for top dog 😛
256 bit not 384 bit? The
256 bit not 384 bit? The 7970, 7950 and current gtx 580 are all 384 bit!
I doubt the specs are
I doubt the specs are entirely accurate of course.
I read an article last saying
I read an article last saying that 560 ti replacement which is gk104 will have 500+ cuda cores and will be 5-10 % faster than 580. If 570 is faster than 480 most likely That article is true. I do not have the url with me, need to find it first. Besides, that article was a speculation made from a comparison of the specs posted by a chinese website.
Argh i just want a decent
Argh i just want a decent upgrade from my old GTX 295 :(. really don’t fancy ATI or the current 5 series.
Breaking news to me: February
Breaking news to me: February is late spring? Tell me more!
Are the specs rumored or
Are the specs rumored or confirmed?
I thought Kepler was supposed to be 3 times as power efficient as Fermi. The GTX 680 is using about 90% of the power that a GTX 580 uses.
Everything I have seen at
Everything I have seen at this point is that Nvidia is skipping the 600 series name and going right to the 700 series….
I wish Nvidia would at least give the people some clarification on Kepler. Forget the release date, how about some early specifications?
It’s not all about the clock
It’s not all about the clock ratings and number of bits. This is a brand new architecture, as long as nVidia stick with their policy of an efficient GPU that can knock the socks off ATI then i’ll be happy.
dont feel bad im still
dont feel bad im still sporting 2 gtx 260`s in sli i think that im due for an upgrade
heh, yea I’m still running 2
heh, yea I’m still running 2 GTX 280’s in SLI.
They are still rockin though!
I can’t believe the new
I can’t believe the new nvidia cards r only going to hav 2gb of VRAM ! Compared to other cards that r out right now this is terrible ! I’m running 2x Eva 580 Gtx superclocked cards an I was hoping for a the new 6 series to hav 4gb of VRAM ! Think I’ll be going to AMD this year !
I hope you realize, that most
I hope you realize, that most cards dont even use that 2GB VRAM, and will never do, even in the 500 series. Same goes for ATI cards, they dont use that huge amount of RAM. It’s more of a marketing deal than anything else. Having over 1.5 GB per core, at the moment, is useless except if you are using a lot of screens( in high res ) per graphics card.
And even then you hit a cap at some point, since the card will simply not be able to process that much data.
This is not correct at
This is not correct at all.
Turn on Precision or Afterburner monitoring of VRAM and watch things like BF3, Batman, Skyrim, etc. Those games will both chew well over 2GB if you have it. 2.5GB RAM is about the minimum I’d accept in a 680 calibre card.
I currently own a GT 430, and
I currently own a GT 430, and am in dire need of an upgrade. I highly doubt that the specs here are accurate, but from what I’ve been seeing, Kepler isn’t doing so hot. Perhaps I’ll break the five-year Nvidia trend I’ve been on and jump on the 7900 boat.
Hope this blows your

I can’t wait til this product will be launch in the market. I really need to upgrade my GT430 as this was broken after a Housekeeping Services at home.
